At Stone Source, we believe the right materials have the power to shape not just spaces, but experiences. La Padrona in Boston is a perfect example of this philosophy brought to life. Collaborating closely with AvroKO’s Andres Lamos and our A&D Consultant Laura Mastri, we curated some of our premium natural stones that define the restaurant’s Italian-inspired journey. We’re proud to have played a part in creating a destination where materiality leads the way. Let’s take a closer look at our collaboration with La Padrona and explain how our stones contribute to the narrative within this top-rated Boston restaurant.

The Overall Design of La Padrona
At La Padrona, a notable addition to Boston’s vibrant dining scene, every detail is a tribute to Italy’s Old World craftsmanship. Materiality is the star of the show. Spanning two floors, the restaurant offers a dynamic journey through mood and experience, where stone, light, and texture work together to create a sense of arrival, sophistication, and intimacy.
The design, led by Andres Lamos of the renowned AvroKO, crafts a narrative that moves seamlessly from bright, open spaces into richly moody, dramatic settings. This intentional use of material and atmosphere invites guests to travel not only through the restaurant but also through an entire experience, from the liveliness and buzz to the quiet dining experience. At the center of this design is the thoughtful selection of natural stone, a critical element in defining La Padrona’s layered aesthetic.

The collaboration, with Stone Source’s A&D Consultant Laura Mastri playing a key role, was essential in bringing La Padrona’s spaces to life. Mastri worked closely with the design team to source stones that would embody the project’s Italian spirit. Capturing the result is photographer Joe Thomas, whose images reveal how stone and design together set the tone for every meal, moment, and memory made at La Padrona.
The Staircase: Milky White Travertine as a Bridge Between Moods
The staircase at La Padrona is more than just a staircase. It’s a sculptural centerpiece that anchors the restaurant. Designed by AvroKO, the stairwell was created by opening up the ceiling, creating a bold architectural moment that connects both floors. Andres Lamos envisioned the staircase as a bridge between two moods. He wanted to create a brighter, welcoming first floor that draws guests upward into a moody second level.

Milky White Travertine from Stone Source plays a starring role in this staircase. Used across the stair treads, the stone provides a soft, neutral foundation that contrasts beautifully with the black iron open balusters and rich walnut handrails. A decorative runner and subtle brass accents complete the design.
The choice of our Milky White Travertine stone was essential in bringing this vision to life. The durability of the stone grounds the entire structure, while its natural texture and appeal emphasize the staircase’s role as a journey. The look of the stone itself creates a moment of movement and transformation within the experience. Through the thoughtful pairing of material and form, the staircase seamlessly connects La Padrona’s layered worlds.
The Second Floor: Calacatta Arni Viola and the Drama of Arrival
As guests move through the Milky White Travertine staircase, they transition into a more intimate atmosphere. This is a deliberate shift that deepens the dining experience. The second floor centers around a bold focal point: a 360-degree oval-shaped bar. This bar is a rarity in Boston, designed to be fully accessible from every angle.
This stunning centerpiece is clad in Calacatta Arni Viola, a richly veined Stone Source marble. Its striking burgundy veining adds a bold, romantic contrast to the dimly lit setting. The stone’s natural movement mirrors the energy of the bar itself, which is lively, fluid, and magnetic.
Above the bar, a bespoke textile-art installation hangs from a gold-toned coffer, echoing the flowing patterns of the marble below. The combination of stone, fabric, and light creates a layered effect that draws guests in and invites them to linger.

For designer Andres Lamos, the bar was conceived as the “visual anchor” of the second floor, making it a destination within a destination. Every material choice, from the luxurious Calacatta Arni Viola to the soft metallic tones above, elevates La Padrona’s upstairs dining into something unforgettable.
Material as Narrative
It’s important to note that the stones and material chosen for La Padrona are not just decoration. They tell the story of the space itself. Milky White Travertine creates a grounding, transitional base. Its classic texture supports the bright openness of the first floor and the journey upward.
In contrast, our Calacatta Arni Viola stone introduces a cinematic drama on the second level, with burgundy veining that amplifies the intimate atmosphere. Together, these stones, sourced through Stone Source, harmonize with the surrounding custom millwork and thoughtful lighting, creating a seamless experience. The material selections strike a balance between Old World glamour and modern design, anchoring La Padrona’s unique identity.

Collaboration & Craftsmanship
The success of La Padrona’s interior design can be directly credited to the close collaboration between AvroKO’s design team, led by Andres Lamos, and Laura Mastri, Stone Source’s A&D consultant. From early concept development through final selection, every material choice was strategic, balancing aesthetic with performance. Together, the team curated a palette rich in texture, tone, and character, ensuring that each stone surface made a significant contribution to the guest experience. Their shared attention to detail, from the softness of a finish to the drama of a vein, resulted in a layered, immersive environment where craftsmanship and storytelling work in harmony.

Stone Source’s materials act not just as beautiful surfaces, but as storytellers, and that’s what you see here. With Milky White Travertine and Calacatta Arni Viola at its core, La Padrona stands as a design-forward destination where materials carry real meaning. As Andres Lamos puts it best: “La Padrona isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a mood.”
