Ribbon Glass

Description

Manufactured from approximately 30% recycled glass, Ribbon Glass fuses intermittent lengths of colored glass to create unique, undulating bands of color. The appearance of Ribbon Glass changes depending upon the angle from which it is viewed, and when backlighting is used, the light will pass through the bands of opaque pigment creating a dramatic effect.

Produced domestically in Vancouver, Ribbon Glass meets the requirements set by the LEED building rating system and may be used to earn LEED MR Credit 5.1.

Colors

Ribbon Glass is produced in 8 standard color blends (Gregory, Blush, Tempest, Tropicana, Garrett, Leather, Fresh Green and Horizon). Additional custom blends are also available upon request.

Sizes

Ribbon Glass slabs are manufactured at a thickness of 30mm(+/- 10%) in sheet sizes up to 48"x120".

Applications

Ribbon Glass is suitable for kitchens, countertops, vanities and other furniture tops. It can also be used for walls.

Installation + Maintenance

The substrate must be flat, stable, solid, free of cracks, smooth, dry and clean. Ribbon Glass is a transparent material. As a result, in some cases the mounting surface, adhesive or substrate may be visible through the material. This can be avoided in a number of ways:

  • Applying an epoxy paint to the underside of the fused glass surface.
  • Applying a plywood substrate with full coverage to the edge.
  • Applying a stainless steel substrate with full coverage to the edge.

Ribbon Glass has a distinctive grain. It can be produced to run parallel to the long edge or the short edge. The grain orientation needs to be considered in any situation where two surfaces join, either as a mitered or butt joint.

All Fused Glass Surfaces are glass and can be generally cared for with glass cleaners. A heat resistant temporary surface is recommended to avoid direct contact between the Fused Glass Surface and extreme temperatures.
