Description Il Palagio" is one of the leading manufacturers of "Cotto Imprunetino", the classic terra cotta tiles produced in the Impruneta area of Italy, near Florence. Il Palagio also owns the Il Ferrone factory, a well-known brand in the terracotta world for decades. By combining technological and product innovation, classic methods, and the special clay of the Impruneta area, Il Palagio is able to link tradition to modern computer systems, achieving the best architectural results, as well as endurance, even in the coldest areas. Characteristics The valuable clay of Impruneta is quarried in a defined area between Greve in Chianti e Impruneta. Its use is controlled by a precise body of rules for the protection of the landscape. Its characteristics are well known since the Renaissance age, yet produced in modern plants, which can obtain a more compact product, with low water absorption, and are frost resistant and aesthetically unique. Genuine cotto is a completely natural product, with clay, water and fire as its only ingredients, in order to obtain a real ecological flooring. Applications Il Palagio terra cotta tiles is suitable for interior and exterior walls and floors. The most common types of Il Palagio terra cotta are indicated below. Installation On interior projects, thin tiles, up to 5/8" thickness, can be installed using a high quality thinset adhesive. Thicker tiles should be installed with mortar. After installation and grouting, tiles must be washed with buffered acid in order to remove any trace of lime, cement or glue from the tiles. When completely clean and dried (it is advisable to let air circulate in the room to facilitate evaporation of humidity), install a high quality impregnator, such as Lithofin PSI. Maintenance A regular maintenance program should be established including a cleaner and surface treatment, such as Lithofin DCC, Daily Cleaner/Conditioner. Il Palagio also offers a factory sealed tile, "I Trattati a Maiolica", which eliminates the need for washing and sealing. Outside flooring should not be treated with wax products. It may be protected with oleo water-repellent products suitable for outdoors, which doesn't change the appearance and the physics-chemical properties. |

Cotto Sole
A ray of sunshine on terracotta, which has made it lighter, warmer, shaded with the colours of the Mediterranean sunset. This is a new finish for traditional terracotta, rendering it smooth and velvety to the touch, while at the same time retaining its typical characteristics of hardness, resistance to frost and durability.
