Description
Basaltina is an Italian lava stone (basalt) that has been used as an
elegant building stone for over a thousand years. It is a unique gray
colored rock with specks of volcanic ash and fissures, created by
escaping gases hundreds of millions of years ago. Due to recent
advances in stone cutting technology, Basaltina has been refined for
use in many elegant interior applications.
Quarry Reserve
Stone Source supplies a special selection of Basaltina, called
"Quarry Reserve". This selection indicates that the Basaltina factory
will carefully choose the stone which meet our requirements of smaller
holes, and greater uniformity than the typical Basaltina material. This
selection has proven to be more aesthetically pleasing to our architect
and designer customers. The "Quarry Reserve" designation also
indicates that the stone is processed and holes are filled expertly by
the Basaltina company, assuring that the material maintains a high
quality level. It is important that the stone specifier indicate the
"Quarry Reserve" selection in their specifications.
Surfaces
Basaltina can be supplied with various surface options:
- The stone can be fabricated with the bed, resulting in linear fissure openings (Classic Pattern) or can be cut across the bed, producing a random look (Nondirectional Pattern).
- Fissure holes can be left unfilled or filled with acrylic resin.
- Depending on the pattern and fill treatment, the factory can apply the following finishes:
|
- Nondirectional/Filled - Polished, Honed No. 3, Honed No. 2, Calibrated.
- Nondirectional/Unfilled - Honed No. 2, Calibrated, Brushed, Bushhammered Medium, Chiseled.
- Classic/Filled - Polished, Honed No. 3, Honed No. 2
- Classic/Unfilled - Polished, Honed No. 3, Honed No. 2, Calibrated, Fine Bushhammered.
Please note: The Honed finish No. 3 is a higher, more reflective finish than No. 2.
